Asya Zahia Colie

Asya Zahia Colie is a mixed media artist who grew up  south of France, and currently lives in Asheville NC with her husband and her son.

Creativity has been a part of her life since childhood.  She has always been drawn to sketching.

It wasn’t until her early forties, that she picked up a paintbrush to create art. Before becoming an artist, Asya worked in the hair and fashion industry. As an artist, she truly began to live life as the person she was always meant to be. Many things influence her work, and she is constantly seeking new ideas & styles.

These, the colors of Summers in Provence – fresh, lush, and passionate – are what seduce and fill her palette.

Years in the fashion industry,  immersed in the feminine ideal, the expression of beauty in the faces of countless women, as well as the recurring subject of the ephemeral passage of youth fascinate her and is a theme she explores and returns to often.

“Painting is vital for my well being. Summer is my mirror, and fashion is my muse.”

Sharing her life between Provence and her home in Asheville makes for a contrast and harmony of landscape and subject matter that is poetic.

“Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect complement to my country life in France.”

Using acrylic and mixed techniques on canvases sometimes dinged and patched, Asya expresses her interest in the processes and transformations of that which surrounds her with her distinct, bold, elegant style that merges abstract with the representational.

“I overflow with these inspirations and this is how I choose to create my art and my life.”

Asya Zahia Colie
